Install tight-fitting, insulating window shades on windows that feel drafty after weatherizing.

Close your curtains and shades at night; open them during the day.

Landscaping with a well-placed tree, shrub, or vine can deliver effective shade, act as a windbreak, and reduce overall energy bills.

Water Heaters

Use less hot water, insulate your water heater, and buy a new, more efficient and effective propane gas or oil heat water heater.

Repair leaky faucets and leaky toilets.

Home Appliances

Propane fireplaces burn more efficiently than wood-burning models and distribute heat more evenly throughout the room. Be sure all burners are burning with a blue, cone shaped flame.  A yellow flame indicates clogged air inlets or burners that need adjustment.  Check the seal on your oven door.  Gaps or tears in the seal will let heat escape and waste energy.Clean the dryer filter before each use.  Dry full loads, but don't overfill. Check your dryer vent piping annually for any blockage that adversly affects the dryer's efficiency and could potentially be a fire hazard.

Put two loads in a row in the dryer to make the most of the heat generated the first time around.
